Rethinking Time(tables) 2022+ Resources Page

On Monday 21st September, SASPA and its project partners, DfE Year 7 into HS and DfE Further Education and Pathways directorates, held a forum for 90 secondary leaders at the National Wine Centre.  The forum’s purpose was to explore our thinking about the best ways to accommodate systemic changes that are impacting on how time is used to effectively, efficiently and equitably meet the curriculum, pedagogy and wellbeing needs of students in junior secondary and senior secondary contexts.  Essentially, our aim was to look at our ambitions for 2022+ curriculum and pedagogy, and to consider how a rethink of time could help us realise those ambitions.

Topics explored at the forum included:

  1. The thinking or philosophy behind an effective, efficient, and equitable secondary timetable.
  2. The impact of Year 7s transitioning to HS on timetabling.
  3. Timetabling the introduction of Career Development into junior secondary
  4. The impact of changes to VET Funding on senior secondary timetables.
  5. The influence that the SACE Strategic Plan (2020-2023) may have on timetables.

The forum had case study inputs from 4 secondary schools – Adelaide Botanic High School, Heathfield High School, John Pirie Secondary School and Seaton High School – and information updates from the two DfE directorates, the Year 7 into HS project and Further Education and Pathways.
