The Thriving Principal: a SASPA/SAPPA Professional Learning Program (2021)

In May 2020 we published the report of the research Dr Chris Dolan conducted for the South Australian Secondary Principals’ Association (SASPA), South Australian Primary Principals’ Association (SAPPA), and the University of South Australia (UniSA). Paradox in the Lives and Work of School Principals is important research.  It explores a range of ambiguities, contradictions, and tensions principals experience in fulfilling the dual roles of school community leader and system leader.

“The Thriving Principal” is a SASPA/SAPPA professional learning program scheduled for a launch on Monday 15th March 2021 at the National Wine Centre.  It is designed to equip principals to better work within the tensions and paradoxes Dr Dolan described so well.  The program will be limited to 50 secondary, primary and combined primary-secondary principals, all of whom have an interest in addressing these tensions by working within a Communities of Practice model – one which relies largely upon asynchronous learning in an online/remote learning environment. This is a tremendous opportunity for principals to provide and receive strategically focused peer learning.
